Dry Docked
While exploring Beaufort, NC, my wife and I came to that
portion of the town where shops had been established for
repairing the myriad of boats that are docked in the nearby
marinas. At back of one of the larger buildings, this small
sportsman had been raised on metal blocks. Perhaps it was
there for repair, although it was also possible that it was being
scrapped and the usable parts were being removed.
Regardless, on its blocks, it was as if the boat was
floating above me. It also seemed to be an invitation for me
to take a series of photos from a unique viewpoint. One of
those snapshots became the reference for this painting.
From a personal standpoint, I hope the boat was simply dry
docked for repair. I also hope that it is now back in the water,
providing that which the fishermen on board are seeking.
