Keepers of the Land, Boone, North Carolina
Im like a young child on Christmas Eve when I go to Boone, NorthCarolina, because my favorite art store is there. And, it makes no difference whether I need additional supplies or not. I will still go to the store. The spring of 2012 was no exception when we made another trip to Boone. I couldnt wait for morning to come so I could go. And although I knew from previous trips that the store wouldnt open until 10:00, I hurried my wife at breakfast and we arrived at the stores parking lot at 8:30. So, like any 68 year old child, I pouted as I drove away to find something to do for an hour and a half. But, in retrospect, that brief time led me to find a true Keeper of the Land.
Rather than making a left turn from the art stores parking lot, I turned right. Then, in less than a mile, we came to a small park which was separated by a creek from an old farm. With camera in hand, I walked a path next to the stream while I took pictures of the farms meadows and barns. And the more photos I took, the more I realized that I was looking at a wonderful painting just waiting to be made. There was absolute harmony between the land and the farm which I hope I have shown in this work.
By the way, I did go back to the art store and did make a purchase the watercolor
paper on which this painting was made.
