Thank You, Bobby
I'm a baseball fan. I enjoyed playing the game although I wasn't very good. I have also umpired, which might surprise some, as I am quick to point out the "errors" of the boys in blue. And I've taken delight in coaching several teams. Yes, I'm a baseball fan.
In regards to this painting, I am also an Atlanta Braves fan. I have suffered through their bad seasons and been ecstatic with the good years, when they made it into the playoffs. Over time, like most sports fans, I have collected the various caps, shirts, and other paraphernalia required to support my team. So, it shouldn't have been a surprise that, when I was looking for a subject matter for a still life, I decided to use some of the items in a painting. While sorting through my "collection", I couldn't help but notice the Bobby Cox bobblehead figure that is on one of our shelves. As I did, I knew that I had to do something in tribute to the manager who gave me years of excitement. This is my "thank you" for the great times he provided in leading the Braves to victory.
I also knew that I had to give the painting to the husband of my youngest daughter because, while I am a baseball fan, he is a baseball fanatic. More over, he loves the Braves as much, and maybe even more, than I do.
The original of "Thank You, Bobby" is a watercolor on 11 x 15, 300 lb cold press paper and is copyrighted by Gerry Grimes, the artist.
